Occupational Health FAQs

Straight answers to the questions HR teams and business owners ask us most.

Do we really need occupational health as a small business?

If you employ anyone, some duties already apply to you — and if you have night workers or noise, vibration or chemical exposure, statutory surveillance duties apply too. Beyond compliance, early clinical input is the most reliable way to shorten absence. Our Night Worker and Bronze subscriptions exist precisely for small teams.

Does the employee have to consent to a referral?

Yes. OH assessments require informed consent, and employees can ask to see reports before release to you. In practice, consent is rarely an obstacle when the referral is framed as support — and we help managers get that framing right.

How quickly do we get reports?

Standard turnaround is 10 working days from assessment. Silver subscribers receive reports within 5 days, and Gold and Platinum subscribers within 48 hours. Urgent cases can be expedited.

Can you cover multiple sites?

Yes. Questionnaire-based services are delivered online nationally, telephone and video assessments cover all UK sites, and we arrange on-site clinic days for surveillance programmes.

What’s the difference between a subscription and pay-as-you-go?

Pay-as-you-go suits occasional, unpredictable need — services are purchased individually online with no ongoing commitment. Subscriptions are annual: a 12-month term billed monthly, bundling the services most SMEs actually use with the managers’ bulletin, clinical advice calls and priority turnaround. Full terms are in our Occupational Health Service Agreement.

Is our data safe?

Clinical records are held confidentially and separately from HR records, in line with UK GDPR and Faculty of Occupational Medicine ethics guidance. Employers receive fitness-for-work advice, not medical detail, unless the employee explicitly consents.
